When I try to focus on one artistic field, I will eventually start dabbling in another. I guess, I am obsessed with the image. Whether the creative work comes through photography, film, or some traditional or digital art it doesn’t matter to me. I have an appreciation for the work, vision, execution within that field. And since I’ve worked professionally in each, I know the love and sweat that goes into it. Its a never-ending progression.
Every now and then I like to play with Adobe Photoshop and do something like this image of me as a Gandalf-like character. I don’t do this for any other reason than to have fun. Sometimes I like to make it comical, conceptual, dark… most often, I like to just joke around with my own image.
I have been using Photoshop since v. 3, which was about the mid-90’s. Back then I was learning how to use it as a Graphic Design student. But right at the beginning, I brought in images and started to manipulate them.
A few years later, I started teaching college and the first class that I had ever taught at that level… Photoshop. It was a great experience for me, because not only did I get to learn more about Photoshop and how it played a roll in art, but I had to up my game big time! I was thinking that I would have young adults just starting out college. But, to my concern, most of my students were much older than myself AND many of them came from the entertainment industry in Los Angeles (where I was living at the time); Disney, Dreamworks, etc. I had Art Director’s, animators and other artist when a couple of decades under their belt. I had to study and really know what I was teaching. It clearly made me better in many ways.
